Jan-Eric Nelson

To most, Eric Nelson was one of the most decent and upstanding persons they have ever known. His beloved and devoted wife stuck by his side during a long struggle with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and clung to her memories of how wonderful he was during good health and better days. He went to The Lord Jesus Christ on Dec. 29, 2008, where there is no more pain and suffering and his tears have been wiped away.

Born June 6, 1952, his mother recalls throughout his whole life he extended himself to humankind: family, neighbors, strangers, and animals (bugs, mice -- you name it). He put others before himself so often and always made sure family needs were met. Their safety and that of his loved ones was always on his list of priorities.

Eric was 56 years old. He was a resident of Pahrump for 10 years, having come from Los Angeles, where he had lived since 1952.

Born in Germany, he made the transition to the United States very well and insisted on learning English at the young age of 5.

Eric, of Christian faith, was a member of The Las Vegas Church. He graduated from CSULB (Alumni member) with a BS in Microbiology.

Prior to his professional career position as a specialty construction inspector in structural steel welding, concrete, masonry and seismic, he was a journeyman welder through Ironworkers Union Local 433. As an inspector he had worked independently, through IUOE Local 12, Twining Labs, Converse Consultants, City of Los Angeles-Con Ad, and Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts. He held memberships with American Welding Society, and ICC/ICBO, MCIA, SEIU and ACIA. He loved gardening and reading; especially his Bible and improved himself this way and with many continuing education classes for work.

His family and friends only knew his gentle soul, which shone through, even as the ability to function in a rational manner slipped away.

He is survived by his wife, Terri; daughters Cinthia Nelson and Suzi (Terrence) Lighten; grandchildren Isaiah and Arielle Lighten of Las Vegas and mother Hanna Nelson of San Pedro, Calif.

Services were held Jan. 3 at Desert Memorial in Las Vegas.

Romans 8:38-39: "For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord." (12/29/2008)

Rhonda Lee Price

Rhonda Lee Price, 43, passed away Jan. 9, 2009, in Las Vegas.

She was born March 5, 1965, in Colorado and was a resident of Las Vegas for 37 years.

She was employed as a craps dealer at Mandalay Bay.

Her husband, Rohn L. Greear of Las Vegas; children Rhon L. Greear Jr. and John Greear; father Ron L. Price; mother Sami Jo Frazier; brother Phillip Oliver III; sister Laura Johnson and grandparents John and Marie Greear of Colorado survive her.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, John M. and Mary Cole of Illinois.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Jan. 16 at Central Christian Church in Henderson.

Davis Funeral Home in Las Vegas is handling the arrangements. (01/09/2009)
