Hometown boy and rising star, Matt Reeves, will perform with his own band in two concerts, Jan. 30 and 31, at the Maverick Saloon on Mesquite Avenue.

Reeves competed for the $100,000 first prize in the national finals of the Colgate Country Music Showdown, which took place in Nashville, Tenn., yesterday. It is not known how he fared at this time but to have made it this far in the competition, good things are surely in his future.

Jan Jensen, owner of the Maverick and former owner of the StageStop Casino and Lounge, was invited to attend the finals. Jensen said, "You know, Matt started his career at the StageStop and I'm so proud to have been a part of this.

Jensen said a video of Matt in his early performances at the StageStop was shown nationwide at the finals Thursday evening. The competition was syndicated to air on nationwide television.

The Pahrump Valley Times will publish the competition results next Friday.
