After wrestling in five dual meets and as many as nine matches individually last weekend, Pahrump Valley's Trojans are on a break. But when they return Jan. 21 at Spring Valley in a Southwest Class 4-A match, staying in contention for a division title will be the stakes.

Pahrump Valley, coached by Craig Rieger, is 21-3 in all duals, 1-0 in the division, after defeating Bishop Gorman 46-25 and going 5-0 in the Bulldog Growler preliminary round at Centennial Friday.

Spring Valley, under the direction of Fred Meyer, is 2-0 in the division, 6-1 in all duals. On Jan. 22, the Trojans wrestle at Bonanza and on Jan. 23-24, Pahrump Valley goes to Bullhead City, Ariz., for the Mohave Invitational.

At the Growler, Zach Weldon was 8-0 as he won the 171-pound title and boosted his season's record to 25-1.

Sergio Rodriguez, a freshman 103-pounder, was 2-5; sophomore Elliott Owens was 7-2 at 112. Travis Haines, a freshman, was 1-4 at 119, with senior Josh Armendariz 3-4 at 125.

Paul Miller, a senior 130-pounder, was 6-2, as was senior Chris DeMille at 135. Gueran Fenicle, a senior 140-pounder, had several tough opponents and finished 4-4, as did Jarid Lydon at 145.

At 152, Travis Linsday was 2-5. Ande Floyd had a tough day Saturday and finished 3-5 at 160. Joe Colucci was 7-2 at 189 pounds; Ryan Holt was 5-3 at 215, and Taylor Gourley was 6-3 at heavyweight.

In dual matches Friday, the Trojans defeated Henderson Liberty 63-9, Sierra Vista 55-22; Syracuse (Utah) 48-21; Centennial 37-29, and Bonanza 52-23.

Wrestlers were seeded for the bracket tournament Saturday. Northeast 4-A power Las Vegas had champions at five weight classes and won the overall championship. The Wildcats' De'Armon Hall won the title at 112 pounds. Roman Garcia (160), David Prieto (189), Trey McElhaney (215) and Madison Hales (285) also won flights for the Wildcats. Hales improved to 28-0 with his win by pin in the final.
