Today

What: Pahrump Valley girls and boys basketball teams at Las Vegas Western in a Sunset Region Southwest Class 4-A Division doubleheader.

When: Girls at 5 p.m., boys at 6:30.

Where: At Western High School, 4601 W. Bonanza (off U.S. 95 at N. Decatur)

Western Girls Coach: Fernando Livas

Record: 0-1 division, 0-4 all games.

Last game: Western lost 53-47 to non-division Canyon Springs Tuesday.

Key player: Tracy Parks had eight points and 13 points for Western.

--

Western Boys Coach: Brooks West, first season

2007-08 record: 7-10 (5-7 Southwest)

2008-09 record: 5-5 (0-1 Southwest)

Last game: Western lost 80-61 to non-division Canyon Springs Tuesday.

Returning letterwinners (starters): 3 (2)

Key players: PG Johnnie Diggs (Sr.): C Melvin Washington (Sr.); F Deion Harrell (Sr.)

Outlook: West inherited one of the area's most experienced rosters with 10 seniors. Diggs has been a contributor since his freshman season, and earned second-team All-Southwest League honors last season. He should be a steadying influence at the point. The 6-foot-9-inch Washington gives the team size. The Warriors haven't made the playoffs since 2006, but should be in contention for a postseason berth this season.
