Mardi Gras parade The Pahrump Chamber of Commerce is seeking participants for the Mardi Gras celebration to be held at 1 p.m., Feb. 21. Enter a float, group or family, walk or ride in a decorated vehicle. Costumes are highly encouraged. For more information or an application, contact the chamber, 727-5800. King and queen of Mardi Gras The Pahrump Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations for a king and queen for the upcoming Mardi Gras Celebration. The winners will be ambassadors for the day and lead the parade to be held at 1 p.m. Feb. 21. Contact the chamber, 727-5800, for more information. Singles Club meets The Pahrump Singles Friendship Club will meet for lunch Jan. 9 at Rubalcaba Taco Shop, 270 S. Dahlia Street. Call John, 537-6467, for reservations. Amargosa Valley The Amargosa Friends of the Library will sponsor a family movie night beginning at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 9 in the Amargosa Valley Community Center. The movie will be "Fly Me to the Moon." The Desert Seniors will sponsor an adults only movie night at 6 p.m. Jan. 10 in the Amargosa Valley Community Center. The movie will be "Mamma Mia!" Pizza, chili, hot dogs, nachos, popcorn, candy and soda will be for sale. Open auditions The Shadow Mountain Community Players will hold auditions for their spring murder mystery at 7 p.m. Jan. 13 in the Pahrump Senior Center, 1370 W. Poetry and Coffee The Poetry and Coffee poetry series will be 10 a.m.-noon Jan. 10 at Lois Layne's Deli, corner of Basin Avenue and Dahlia Street, across from the tennis courts. PVRR banquet rescheduled The Pahrump Valley Rough Rider award banquet has been changed to 3 p.m. Jan. 25 in the Bob Ruud Community Center. Members are encouraged to attend. The group will also be voting for officers for the upcoming year. Hetrick-Irwin, Mitzi Sears Garden Club landscape tour The Pahrump Valley Garden Club is planning the annual landscape tour to be held April 25. Home landscapes south of Highway 372 are to be represented. Those interested in having their home featured as part of the tour should call 751-0532 or 751-4785 by Jan. 31. A variety of styles and landscapes, formal and informal, are encouraged. Manse PTO needs volunteers The Manse Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization is looking for members of the community who might have knowledge, skills or abilities they can share with the students at Manse through the after school enrichment program. They are looking for activities to enhance student education which are not offered as part of the curriculum. Currently scheduled are geology, cheerleading, drum lessons, and crafts made from recycled materials. Classes begin in the spring. Deadline to participate is Jan. 20.
