Hard times create need for energy assistance

PVT

The Nevada Division of Welfare and Supportive Services is offering energy assistance and the Family to Family Connection is offering assistance with applications.

The Energy Assistance Program is designed to help eligible Nevada households with their heating and electric costs. It is not, however, an emergency program.

Family to Family Connection is urging all parents to apply for energy assistance before a shut-off notice is received.

They will have English- and Spanish-speaking staff available to provide free on-site assistance.

The program may also provide arrearage assistance as a once-in-a-lifetime benefit to help a household bring past due charges on their heating or electric bill to current status.

Specific criteria must be met in determining eligibility. If your family is not on the program, you are urged to apply now by completing an energy assistance application and supplying the needed documentation.

To get help with the EAP application or to have questions answered call: Family to Family Connection, 775-751-5898; Reno or Carson City, 866-846-2009 or Las Vegas, 702-486-1404.
