CCSC eyes extensive recall effort
Concerned Citizens for a Safe Community held a meeting last Saturday at the Pahrump Community Library during which they discussed plans to start a recall of numerous county officials.

McGinness wants to break apart 5th District Court
State Sen. Mike McGinness, R-Fallon, has 11 bill draft requests already filed for the upcoming session of the state legislature, including a request to split the 5th judicial district, moving Mineral County into a district with Churchill County.

A public hearing to gather comments on the problematic environmental impact statement for the Global Nuclear Energy Partnership, or GNEP -- which could determine if the U.S. Department of Energy will pursue recycling nuclear waste -- will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at the Bob Ruud Community Center.

Former mayor to head nuke office
RENO -- Bruce Breslow, a former Sparks mayor and television sportscaster, said Tuesday that in his new job as head of the state Nuclear Projects Office he'll continue Nevada's fight against federal plans to open the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste dump.

County approves Yucca contracts despite uncertainty about funding
While U.S. Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., says Yucca Mountain will bleed really hard in the coming year, $2.9 million worth of oversight contracts were routinely renewed by Nye County commissioners last month.

Goedhart seeks control on residency
Nevada District 36 Assemblyman Ed Goedhart, R-Amargosa Valley, has five bill draft requests for the upcoming state legislative session, including one allowing rebates to parents sending their children to private schools and another requiring a two-thirds vote on initiatives like the proposed sales tax increase on the ballot in the November 2006 election.
