Local man still at large
By GINA B. GOOD
Jaime Albarran, the Pahrump man allegedly responsible for shooting and killing a convenience store clerk on Sunday, is still the subject of an aggressive manhunt by the Nye County Sheriff's Office. Tuesday his brother, Americo Albarran-Valdez, 31, who also lives in Pahrump, was picked up and booked for obstructing a police investigation. Later that day he posted bail of $632 and was released. According to Sheriff Tony DeMeo, rumors are hampering his department's investigation of the shooting. On Tuesday, it was heard from "reliable sources" that the shooter had been captured. Unfortunately, that was not true; however, one Las Vegas television station, KLAS, Channel 8, broadcast the news. "As a result, our alert was canceled until we straightened the situation out," said DeMeo. "It is unfortunate that rumor spread because it puts the public on a less vigilant level. We want people to be actively looking for this person." DeMeo also said he does not consider the shooting a gang-related incident. "We are looking at this as a heinous crime committed by an individual from our local area. There is no evidence this person is tied in with any kind of gang. "Albarran acted as an individual and we hope he turns himself in." DeMeo said the quickest way to get updates on Albarran is on the Internet at www.nyecountysheriff.net. In fact, a wanted poster is available on the site, for those who wish to post it. |
