VEA puts off 7.5% rate increase
The Valley Electric Association Board of Directors Tuesday deferred a proposed 7.5 percent rate increase but plan to review the rates on a monthly basis until mid-2009.

Local man still at large
Jaime Albarran, the Pahrump man allegedly responsible for shooting and killing a convenience store clerk on Sunday, is still the subject of an aggressive manhunt by the Nye County Sheriff's Office.


Whatever happened to ...?
Developers announced ambitious projects in 2008 to build hotels, casinos, shopping malls, restaurants and housing developments.

Several developments were brought to fruition
The Home Depot store, a 130,000-square-foot big box store opened Aug. 14 on Highway 160 and Basin Avenue, is the most obvious sign of growth in Pahrump.

Festival was a glorious success
The fourth annual Festival of Trees Gala held Dec. 5, sponsored by Nathan Adelson Hospice and hosted by the Pahrump Nugget, was another success. There were over 150 audience members who were willing to open their hearts and their wallets for a good cause.

Undeveloped commercial land still subject to tax cap
When the owner of property on Paiute Boulevard wanted to rezone it from rural estates to neighborhood commercial at the Dec. 10 Pahrump Regional Planning Commission meeting, RPC member Carrick "Bat" Masterson gave him some advice with tongue in cheek.

Boy dies a winner, achieves goal
Brandon Payner exceeded his goal to collect 100,000 business cards many times over, earning his place in the Guinness World Book of Records before his death on Christmas Eve.
