Kristi Daffer averaged 14 points and 10 rebounds a game competing against some of the best players in Nevada high school basketball.

Wednesday, the 6-foot senior center from Pahrump Valley was recognized for her efforts by being named to the Sunset Region Southwest Class 4-A Division first team.

Pahrump Valley, in its first 4-A season after being one of the dominant 3-A teams in Nevada for more than 10 years, was 9-7 in the Southwest Division. Four of the losses were by a total of nine points (50-49 to Sierra Vista, 66-62 and 56-55 to Bonanza and 58-55 to Durango), knocking the Lady Trojans out of playoff contention.

In Daffer's four seasons with the varsity, PVHS was 91-39 (18-13 in 2005-06, 30-4 in 2006-2007, 25-8 in 2007-2008 and 18-14 in 2008-2009). The 2007 and 2008 teams qualified for the 3-A state tournament

Because of the Lady Trojans' strong performances throughout the league season, Jason Odegard was named coach of the year in the Southwest. It was Odegard's first season as the girls coach, after being a varsity basketball assistant for several years.

Other coaches of the year were Silverado's Kelli Bray-Mathews (Southeast), Valley's Barney Holmes (Northeast) and Centennial's Karen Weitz (Northwest).

Bishop Gorman's Dannielle Diamant and Durango's Mia Bell were named co-MVPs in the Southwest. Diamant, a 6-foot-4-inch post player, helped Gorman to a perfect league record. Bell had the season-best scoring effort in league play, putting up 52 points against Clark.

Gorman's Aaryn Ellenberg and Chelsie Pitt are also on the first team, which includes Bonanza's Christin Figgins and Shirley Pitts, and Sierra Vista's Jeannette Jackson.

Centennial's Johnna Brown and Deanna Daniels shared the MVP award in the Northwest League, with teammates Alexis Byrd and Courtney Hayes being named to the first team. The Sunset Region champion Bulldogs were undefeated in league play.

Palo Verde's Hayley Henderson, Mojave's Jazzmine Robinson and Cimarron-Memorial's Catherine Wyre also earned first-team honors.

Green Valley's Jazmine Jarvis helped the Gators to a second straight perfect league mark and a Sunrise Region title and earned Southeast League Most Valuable Player honors this season, as voted on by the coaches.

Jarvis averaged 19 points and 7.7 assists per game, triggering an offense that averaged 55 points in league play. She also averaged six steals per game.

The younger Jarvis had plenty of help, though. Senior forward Vajae Robinson and junior guard Danielle Christenson were named to the Southeast League's first team.

Silverado's Shea Collins and Mikayla Thielges, Liberty's Amanda Delgado and Foothill's Mercedes Starr also were named to the division first team.

Valley's Vanessa Corona earned MVP honors in the Northeast League after helping the Vikings to a second-place finish. Desert Pines had three representatives -- LaBrea Walker, Andrea Jefferson and Clarissa Davis -- on the Northeast's first team. They're joined by Rancho's Khalia Branch and Valley's Iris Barahona.
