RCMS testing schedule

Rosemary Clarke Middle School will adhere to the following test schedule for students.

It is important that students be in school on these dates, schedule other appointments accordingly.

Feb. 25 -- Nevada CRT, science, eighth grade only;

Feb. 26-27 -- Science make up for eighth grade only;

March 3 -- Math, sixth grade;

March 4 -- Math, seventh grade;

March 5 -- Math, eighth grade;

March 4-9 -- Math make up for grades 6-8;

March 10 -- Reading, sixth grade;

March 11 -- Reading, seventh grade;

March 12 -- Reading, eighth grade and

March 11-16 -- Reading make up for grades 6-8.

United Way accreditation

United Way will be accepting applications from not-for-profit agencies (501(c)3) in Nye County through March 9.

Applications will be mailed this week to the agencies on the local United Way of Nye County's mailing list.

United Way accreditation is required in order for 501(c)3 agencies to apply for the allocation of United Way funds.

Completed applications may be mailed to United Way of Nye County, P.O. Box 5019, Pahrump, NV 89041, and must be received in the office, not just postmarked, no later than 5 p.m. March 9.

O-Mok-See

Rising Star Equestrian Association will offer another O-Mok-See on Feb. 28.

Sign-ups will start at 9 a.m. with the event to begin at 10 a.m. The cost is $10 for members and $25 for non-members. There will be a mutton bustin' event for ages 6 and under following the O-Mok-See.

Meet Jesus revival

The Seventh Day Adventist will host a meet Jesus revival Feb. 28 through March 7 at the church, 477 Blagg Road.

Brad Newton will speak on "The Eight Treasures for Lasting Happiness."

Scheduled days are Feb. 28, 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.; March 1, 7 p.m.; March 2, 3, 4, and 5, 7 p.m.; March 6, 11 a.m. and March 7, 7 p.m.

Ash Wednesday services

* The Pahrump Valley United Methodist Church will hold Ash Wednesday services at 7 p.m. Feb. 25, 1300 E. Highway 372.

Everyone is invited.

* St. Martin's in the Desert Episcopal Church will have Ash Wednesday services at noon, Feb. 25. Wednesday evening services will be held at 6 p.m. March 4 through April 8.

PVCAT meets

The Pahrump Valley Community Action Team will meet at 9 a.m. Feb. 27 at the chamber office on Highway 160.

The public is invited to attend and join one of the committees; beautification, public relations or education.

The current project, the cleanup of Highway 160, is headed by Al Balloqui. PVCAT is also involved in the planning of the Last Chance Park in the northwest part of the valley.

Mammovan

The Nevada Health Centers Mammovan will be in Pahrump 8:15-3:15 p.m. Feb. 23-26 at the Bob Ruud Community Center.

To qualify for a mammogram, a woman must be at least 40 and have qualifying insurance. Mammograms are free for the uninsured.

The VFW hosts a swap meet the second and fourth Saturday of each month 9-4 p.m. on the VFW grounds. The third Saturday at 11 a.m., VFW Ladies Auxiliary at 1 p.m.

Food drive

Nye County Emergency Services will host another food drive 10-2 p.m. Feb. 28 in the parking lot of Albertson's, 200 S. Highway 160.

Items needed include peanut butter, jellies, beans, noodles, rice and canned products such as meats, fruits, soups and vegetables.

The food drive will help to keep the food banks full.

NCES will also be handing out disaster preparedness information.

Dog obedience classes

The Pahrump Valley Obedience Club will conduct a six-week dog obedience class for beginners and advanced handlers every Saturday morning starting at 10 a.m. March 14.

Registration will be at 6:30 p.m. March 12 in the Bob Ruud Community Center.

No dogs allowed at the registration. Bring proof of vaccinations.

The Amargosa Community Center will hold an annual potluck and auction of goods and services at 5 p.m. March 14 in the community center on Farm Road.

The auction will include items like oil changes, pool lessons, sewing machine cleaning and adjustments, a Brentwood rocker, antique dolls, TVs, etc.

Prostate cancer support

The new Pahrump chapter of US-TOO, an international prostate cancer support group met for the first time Jan. 22.

The mission is to communicate timely and reliable information to enable informed choices regarding the detection and treatment of prostate cancer.

Prostate cancer is the leading cause of death in men over 35.

The support group meets the fourth Tuesday of the month except November and December holidays 5-6:30 p.m. in the Pahrump Community Library.

Fish Fry

Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church will host a fish fry 4-7 p.m. each Friday Feb. 27 through April 3, 781 E. Gamebird Road.

Fried and baked fish dinners are $7. They will also have fish tacos, fish taco dinners, clam chowder and homemade desserts.

Coffee or punch is free and other beverages will be available.

Pahrump Chamber of Commerce

Feb. 25 -- The chamber mixer will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Pahrump Community Library.

The event will be hosted by Friends of the Library. The cost will be $5 for members and $10 for non-members.

Computer Users Group meets

The Pahrump Computer Users Group will meet at 1 p.m. March 2 in the large meeting room of the Pahrump Community Library.

Don Norvell will demonstrate creating a free Internet site using a free online domain name and free Web hosting.

Mike Erwin will present on his favorite top 10 free downloads and will provide a free CD of the programs and utilities he demonstrates to attendees.

Parking at the rear of the library is preferred. Handicap parking is still in front of the building.

New members may pay a $5 annual membership fee at check-in and collect their raffle ticket.

VEA Scholarship Program

Valley Electric will award six educational scholarships to assist qualified individuals in furthering their education.

Awarded will be two full-time vocational/technical scholarships, two full-time academic scholarships and two continuing education scholarships.

Women's self-defense class

Homeland Heroes and the Nye County Sheriff's Office will sponsor a two-day women's self-defense class 8-4 p.m., Feb. 28 and March 1 in the Bob Ruud Community Center.
