On Monday, Byron Piimuna Kalani Souza of Pahrump was killed while working at a construction site at McCarran International Airport's Terminal 3 roadway project in Las Vegas.

Reportedly he was 25 years old and was on the job for Las Vegas Paving, where he had been employed since April 2008.

Neither the Clark County Department of Aviation nor Las Vegas Paving Corp. will confirm the actual cause of death, but it was reported on Las Vegas television channel KVVU, Fox 5, that Souza was run over by a compact motorized earth-moving shovel shortly after 11 a.m., and that paramedics took him to a Las Vegas hospital where he died soon thereafter.

The incident is under investigation by the Nevada Division of OSHA.

In a statement released Monday, Las Vegas Paving said, "We place workplace safety as priority one and strive to provide our employees with a safe and secure workplace." They also stated they will work with the appropriate authorities to determine how the accident occurred.
