Where: Durango High School, at 7100 W. Dewey Dr., off S. Rainbow, in southwest Las Vegas.

The matchups:

* 3 p.m. -- Round Mountain girls (12-12) vs. Pahranagat Valley Alamo (18-9)

* 6:20 p.m. -- Beatty girls (10-11) vs. Lund (18-2)

* 8 p.m. -- Beatty boys (14-10) vs. Lake Mead Christian Academy (21-8).

Previous tournament results: Girls -- Round Mountain d. Lake Mead Christian Academy 46-32 ... Alamo d. Las Vegas Trinity 61-18 ... Beatty d. Tonopah 50-33. Boys -- Beatty d. Spring Mountain 44-43.

Bottom line: Today's winners are assured of a berth in the 2009 Nevada High School Basketball Championships, slated Feb. 27-28 in The Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. The top two teams from the South join the top two teams from the North in the state semifinals. The Northern playoffs run through Saturday.

Today's winners return Saturday (Noon, girls; 1:40 p.m. boys) to play for a No. 1 seed in the state tournament.

Forecast: Beatty lost to Lund 65-38 in a regular-season Southern League game ... Beatty's boys fell 74-53 to the defending state champion Lake Mead Christian Academy boys last week ... Round Mountain's girls lost 60-24 to Alamo. ... Playing on a neutral court could help the underdog Hornets and Knights ... Lund's girls and Lake Mead's boys are clear favorites to prevail, but the sleeper teams in both divisions will be Alamo ... The Lady Panthers defeated Las Vegas Trinity 61-18 in a first-round games, while the Alamo boys outscored Trinity 73-67 ... Beatty's boys advanced with a 44-43 win against Spring Mountain, while the Lady Hornets downed Tonopah 50-33 ... Round Mountain's Lady Knights eleiminated Henderson International School 53-23 ... International's boys, who ousted Tonopah 60-42, will play Alamo today at 4:40 p.m.
