AMARGOSA VALLEY -- The second season at the Death Valley Raceway starts Saturday, with super stocks, cam couples, mini stocks and Dwarf cars featured.

Competition starts at 1 p.m. on the re-profiled -- and fast -- one-third mile dirt oval that recently hosted the IMCA modified Best of the Best Wild West Shootout Series.

Justin Yeager, who won three of the five 25-lap features, emerged as the champion of the series that began in early January and concluded last weekend. A sixth race, scheduled last Sunday, was canceled.

Yeager outdueled Pahrump's Levi Kiefer and Las Vegan Dan Fitzgerald to win the modified main Saturday.

Jake Donnelly, Mark Allison and Ron Jenkins were in the top six.

Also competing were Randy Dolberg, Robert Smotherman, Jason Donnelly, Terri Little, Bill Meyer and Roy Spielman.

Jim Wulfenstein won the super stock main, beating Mike Lysinger, Pete Wallace and Dale Daffern to the checkered flag.

The Dwarf car feature was won by Kelly Gutches. Bobby Meek was second, followed by Mike Bean, Leroy Kay, Scott Kelley, Cecilia Dillie and Mark Dillie.

The modifieds were to race Saturday, but that group caneled that appearance. But the modifields will appear regularly at DVR, including being featured (along with super stocks) at the Wild West South Modified Tour May 15.

The race dates (which are subject to change) are March 7-21, April 4-18, May 2-15-30, Sept. 12-26 and Oct. 10-24. Night races are scheduled in April, May and September. The track will be closed June, July and August, when torrid, summer weather conditions prevail.
