1-A regionals to begin TuesdayPVT
Beatty goes to Lake Mead Christian Academy today, assured of berths in both the boys and girls Southern Nevada Class A basketball playoffs that start next week. The girls are 5-3 in the division, 9-10 in all games, as they rank fourth. Lake Mead, in sixth place, is 4-4, 8-16. Beatty's boys are 7-2, 13-9, as they oppose the defending state champion Eagles (9-0, 19-8), who are in first place, a game ahead of Henderson International School (9-1, 14-13). Last week, Beatty swept Sandy Valley, the boys running away to a 58-20 win, while the girls were 50-6 winners. Tonopah and Round Mountain split a 1-A doubleheader Tuesday, as the 2008-2009 seasons winds to a close. The Mucker boys won 54-50, but the girls lost 57-36 in the games played at Round Mountain. Last weekend, Tonopah's girls won 34-31 against Las Vegas Trinity, while the boys fell 66-51. Round Mountain's boys lost 57-41 to Trinity, while the Lady Knights prevailed 44-23. Today, regular-season finales are Tonopah at home against Lund and Round Mountain traveling to Pahranagat Valley Alamo. First-round Southern regional games are on the higher seeds courts Feb. 17 (boys)-18 (girls), with the semifinals Feb. 20 at Durango High School in Las Vegas. The regional title games are Feb. 21 at Desert Oasis High School in southwest Las Vegas. The top eight in both the boys and girls divisions qualify for the regionals. The state tournaments are Feb. 26-28 at The Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.
