All 2008 champions in next-to-last ratings
The 2008-2009 Nevada high school basketball regular season ends this weekend, with regional tournaments scheduled to run Monday through Saturday next week. The playoffs will decide the final four teams in all eight divisions in four classes. The state tournament is Feb. 26-28 at The Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. The final Pahrump Valley Times Nevada High School basketball ratings will be published Wednesday. Today, the penultimate ratings have Las Vegas Cheyenne (Class 4-A), Winnemucca Lowry (3-A), Needles, Calif. (2-A) and Lake Mead Christian Academy (1-A) pacing the boys, with Bishop Gorman (4-A), Spring Creek (3-A), Lincoln County (2-A) and Lund (1-A) leading the girls. Only one undefeated team remains in Nevada; the Owyhee boys are 22-0 and rank behind defending state champion Lake Mead (18-8) in the 1-A ratings. Reno's boys (14-12), Bishop Gorman's girls (24-3), Las Vegas Faith Lutheran's boys (8-16), Yerington's girls (21-4), Lincoln County's boys (14-10), Needles, Calif. girls (24-2), and Owyhee's girls (9-4) are other defending state champions in the next-to-last atings. Final scores in the 2008 title games were: * Lake Mead Christian Academy boys 61, Las Vegas Trinity 43; * Owyhee girls 42, Las Vegas Mountain View Christian 38; * Lincoln County boys 78, Needles 69; * Needles girls 63, Lincoln County 39; * Faith Lutheran boys 59, Dayton 40; * Yerington girls 47, Truckee, Calif., 30; * Reno boys 76, Las Vegas Cheyenne 72, and * Bishop Gorman girls 65, Reno 48. All of the finals were played in the Lawlor Events Center on the University of Nevada campus in Reno. |
