Hayes, 85, passed away Jan. 28, 2009, in Las Vegas. She was born Sept. 11, 1923, in New York, N.Y., and was a resident of Pahrump for 28 years. She was known for her quiet demeanor but mainly for her kindness and desire to help people in any way she could. She was a very giving person who asked little in return. Anyone who had the privilege to know her, also loved her, and became her life-long friend. She was an artistic person in cooking and singing, and drawing in charcoal and with watercolor and oils. She was a professional photographer. So great was the talent in her art and craft, while in New York, she was hired by Post magazine in layout, where she worked under Mr. Twelvetrees, who in turn, worked with Norman Rockwell. After meeting her husband, she gave up any desire to advance her career, something that is rare. She told her children she never had any regrets in her decision to raise her family rather than advance her career. Patricia and George Hayes celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary Jan. 17. They had four children. She never boasted about her accomplishments. In fact, most of her friends were never aware of her talents. She never gossiped or had an unkind word to say about anyone. She had a strong faith and hope in God's promise of an earthly resurrection, (Acts 24:15). She knew her body was losing its battle to live after a three-month-long illness and knew she would be in God's memory and will be resurrected to an earthly paradise, (Revelation 21:4). She often talked about the last days we live and she hoped and prayed people would take notice and be moved to read the Bible and learn about the wonderful hope for mankind, (Psalms 37:29). She knew time is short and world calamity will soon manifest itself, (Matthew 24:3-14). Patricia is survived by her husband George; sons Laird Hayes of Pahrump and Richard Hayes of Scottsdale, Ariz.; daughters Merry King and Trudy Gossage, both of Pahrump; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; niece Cassie Oserin of Phoenix, Ariz., and grand-nephew Seth Oserin of Southern California. She was preceded in death by grandson Stoney King; nephew Jerry Shapiro; parents William and Anna Walker; brothers Marty, Jay and Sam and sister Lillian. "We love and miss you terribly Mom, we will see you again as promised, (John 5:28,29)." A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Feb. 14, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses on Thousandaire Boulevard. (01/28/2009) |
