Incline suspends eight players
INCLINE VILLAGE -- Eight Incline High School varsity basketball players have been suspended from the team for breaking undisclosed rules. School Principal John Clark said the players were suspended last week for violating Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association and Washoe County School District policies on a Jan. 31 bus ride home from a game in Lovelock, where the team defeated Pershing County High. The players also were suspended from the north Lake Tahoe school for two days last week. Clark said while school district policy requires a 10-day suspension for drug and alcohol infractions, the students' suspension was waived to two days because they agreed to participate in all sessions of the Secondary Drug Intervention Policy. "I'm not at liberty to tell the public why they were suspended. We've got privacy rights and we have minors here,'' Clark told the North Lake Tahoe Bonanza. He said the players will miss the last six regular season games but will be eligible to compete if the team qualifies for the six-team Northern 2-A regional tournament held later this month in Reno. The team dropped to 9-4 in the conference with a 50-44 loss Saturday at Battle Mountain. The boys are 16-8 overall this season. Three varsity players have been joined by eight junior varsity players for the rest of the regular season. -- Information from: North Lake Tahoe Bonanza |
