In April 2008, Randy Hill became the owner of Galiano's American Grill located on Postal Road. However, not having the expertise in managing it, he called on an old friend, Steve Cooper, to handle the finer points and create a new cuisine.

Although it still has the same name, the offerings and attitudes are much different.

Hill, a construction worker and former video editor for Channel 41 and Channel 30/62, is now a full-time restaurant owner who is optimistic that Galiano's will be a success.

"It's a good, yet, somewhat stressful challenge with good potential," he said. "Steve is very experienced and is already improving the business."

Hill became involved with the restaurant in January 2007, but took over ownership in August. "I always wanted a restaurant since I was a kid but didn't have a clue how to manage one. Luckily I found Steve and all is going well."

Hill is still a videographer. He videotapes weddings, church services, or other special events requested by the customer. For a short time he taped a television show called the Sportsman's Quest. Prices for videos depend on the type of event.

Cooper said, "It was great timing and a perfect opportunity to become part owner in a business with such great potential. Our concept is to provide a wireless Internet spot as well as a burger bar based on ideas gained from Hooters and Starbucks. Wings, girls and bar -- that's the idea."

Now just because the bar is available doesn't mean it's not a family environment. The restaurant is the focus of the business. As a matter of fact, the bar is almost an afterthought. Galiano's has a kids menu as well as the regular menu.

Cooper promises there is nothing on the menu over $10. All burgers are black Angus beef and fresh. The menu has other offerings as well. The kids menu is $3.99 and offers a junior burger of black Angus and movies to keep them entertained. All movies are rated G or PG. For adults there is ESPN, so they won't miss the game. Sorry, ladies, no soap operas.

There is no gaming at Galiano's so you get to keep the change. Seniors 55 and over get 25 percent off each meal. In addition, if you go to ecouponusa.com (a business owned by Cooper), there is a coupon for a Valentine's Day special.

As manager, Cooper has an extensive background in food service and since taking over has already increased business by 40 percent. His background includes catering, as a chef at Mandalay Bay and general manager at other restaurants.

The only salad offered is a taco salad. When you order a burger, you go to the salad bar to get your fixin's. A lemon square is added to each entrée free of charge.

Restaurant hours are: Monday-Saturday 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
