Andrea Kremer ... Suzy Kolber ... Erin Andrews ... Michelle Tafoya ... they're already there.

McKenzie Dean ... Someday.

To become a television sideline reporter is the goal of McKenzie Dean. Wednesday, the Pahrump Valley High School senior signed a letter of intent with NCAA Division I Utah, where Dean will study sports psychology, with that job as her objective.

"Utah has a good school in communications, which is why I decided to go there," said Dean. "I'm going to get into broadcasting ... eventually, I want to be a sideline reporter for ESPN."

Dean will be receiving some financial aid from Utah, a member of the Mountain West Conference, which includes UNLV. In high school, Dean has run in the 3200-, 1600- and 800-meter events and she is a three-time Nevada Class 3-A cross country champion.

"One thing about going to Utah ... Katie Palmer (a Boulder City High standout) goes to BYU and I hope to run against her again," said Dean. "I'm excited about going to Utah ... competing there will give me the opportunity to reach my potential.

"I'm already working with a trainer in Las Vegas; we have workouts and there are meets scheduled regularly during the winter," said Dean. Her final prep season starts in about five weeks, with her objectives to be among Nevada's best high school runners in her specialty events.

"I plan to run cross country and both indoor and outdoor track at Utah," said Dean. "I've already set goals (personal best times) in those events. Coach (Kyle Kepler) and I have already connected ... we know what the goals will be."

Dean is the second PVHS athlete to sign with a Division I school. Dominique Maloy, a 15-time Nevada state sprint champion, is a sophomore sprinter for the Arizona State University women's team.

As for her objective, working in television: "I'm excited," said Dean. "It will be a great way to stay involved in athletics."
