With the regular season grinding to a close, the Pahrump Valley Times Nevada High School basketball ratings are still volatile, with no clear-cut favorite in any of the eight divisions.

The next-to-last ratings will be published Feb. 13, with the final rankings to appear Feb. 18, during the week when regional tournaments are being contested state-wide.

The state tournament will be played Feb. 26-27-28 at Las Vegas, with all eight championship games to be contested in The Orleans Arena.

The leaders this week:

* Las Vegas Cheyenne, Class 4-A boys, 18-3.

* Winnemucca Lowry, 3-A boys, 14-7.

* Needles, Calif., 2-A boys, 23-5.

* Lake Mead Christian Academy, 1-A boys, 15-8.

* Bishop Gorman, Class 4-A girls, 21-3.

* Spring Creek, 3-A girls, 21-1.

* Lincoln County, 2-A girls, 19-2.

* Pahranagat Valley Alamo, 1-A girls, 15-8.

Chasing the Cheyenne boys in 4-A are Reno Bishop Manogue, 19-6, and Bishop Gorman, 19-4.

Mesquite Virgin Valley, 14-7, is the main threat to Lowry in 3-A.

Silver Stage, from near Dayton, is 18-4 and is ranked second in 2-A.

In Class A, undefeated Owyhee (19-0) is second to defending state champion Lake Mead.

Centennial's girls, 23-2, are second in the 4-A rankings. In 3-A, Yerington, 20-2, trails Spring Creek. Pershing County Lovelock, 13-4, is second in 2-A. And in Class A, Owyhee, 9-3, is in the primary chase position.

Beatty's boys, 12-9, are the lone Nye County team in the ratings. Coach Brian Hayes' team is ninth in 1-A.
