Shoshone hosts annual conservation meeting

The Sierra Club desert committee and wilderness committee for California and Nevada will hold their annual joint meeting Feb. 7 and 8 in Shoshone, Calif., at the Flower building.

These meetings have become a tradition in the conservation community, and typically draw between 80 to 100 participants. The joint meeting of the two committees once a year allows interested club members and the general public to receive updates and express their concerns about desert conservation issues.

The public is welcome, sierra club membership is not required, and anyone with an interest in the outdoors is encouraged to attend. The meetings begin at noon on Saturday and continue until 5 p.m. and are followed by a potluck and conservation program of some sort. Generally, the real work gets done in the Crowbar Café and Saloon Saturday night.

Meetings on Sunday are from 8 a.m. until noon. After the conclusion on Sunday, those interested will go on a hike into the Amargosa River Canyon led by local activist Brian Brown.

For more information contact the Amargosa Conservancy at 760-852-4339.
