Two games out of fourth place with four games remaining, the Pahrump Valley girls are still mathematically in contention for one of the four playoff berths in Sunset Region Southwest Class 4-A Division basketball.

The Pahrump Valley boys, despite some excellent moments in recent games, are still searching for their first-ever 4-A league victory.

That's the status of Trojan basketball teams, as they head into the homestretch of their first campaigns in Class 4-A. Tonight, the Trojans are at home against Western and Thursday, Desert Oasis visits.

The bottom line for each team:

* PV girls are going to need a sweep of their final four games and hope that Durango stumbles badly down the stretch.

* The PV boys have had some excellent moments in recent games, placing opponents in jeopardy, but those surges could not be maintained.

The Lady Trojans, who a week ago were 6-3 and in third place in the division, lost 56-41 to Sierra Vista, 58-55 to Durango and 72-22 to defending Nevada Class 4-A state champion Bishop Gorman to drop into fifth place at 6-6 (15-13 in all games).

On Feb. 11, they go to Bonanza and on Feb. 13, coach Jason Odegard's team closes the regular season at home against Spring Valley.

Durango is 8-4 (19-9); the TrailBlazers' final four games are today against Clark, Thursday at Bonanza, Feb. 9, against Western and Feb. 11 at home against Spring Valley.

The Pahrump Valley boys lost 81-42 to Sierra Vista, 77-44 to Durango and 70-55 to Bishop Gorman to fall to 0-12 in the league, 7-17 in all games.

Against Durango, the Trojans were tied with the Blazers at 30-30 at halftime, but they were outscored 47-17 in the second half. Against Bishop Gorman, Pahrump Valley battled to the finish against the bigger and stronger Gaels.

The pivotal game of the weekend was played Saturday, when the PV girls lost 58-55 to homestanding Durango.

Mia Bell scored Durango's first 11 points Saturday, but the senior guard also had plenty of support from 5-foot-4-inch freshman guard Jasmine Suarez.

Bell finished with 33 points, Suarez made five 3-pointers on her way to 17 points and Durango held on to win.

Durango avenged a 51-40 loss at Pahrump Valley on Wednesday.

Alyson Kunzi had 14 points and nine rebounds to lead Pahrump Valley. Kristi Daffer added 13 points and six rebounds, and Toi Simmons had seven points and nine assists.

But the Trojans never led despite rallying from a 32-21 halftime deficit to tie the game at 52 on Daffer's three-point play with less than 1:30 to go. Four free throws by Bell saved Durango in the final minute.

Nicolette Grigsby scored all 19 of her points in the first three quarters Friday to lead Sierra Vista to its win against Pahrump Valley.

Jeanette Jackson added 14 points and Kim Rouzer 10 for the Lions.

Daffer led the Trojans with 15 points, and Casey Scheller added 14.

Gorman dominated the less experienced Lady Trojans from the beginning to win at home Monday night.

Monday night at Gorman, Shabazz Muhammad scored 13 of his 21 points in the second half to help the Gael boys top the Trojans.

Anson Winder added 11 points and eight rebounds for Gorman. Mike Amburgey and David Smith each scored 11 points for the Trojans.

Durango's Marcus Falley had 31 points, seven assists, four blocks and four steals to lead the Trailblazers past the Trojans on Saturday. Dario Jokic hit 4 of 6 3-pointers on his way to 15 points for the Trailblazers. Donovan Williams contributed 11 points and nine rebounds for Durango.

Alex Anderson scored 13 points and Marvin Weekly 12 for Pahrump Valley.

At Sierra Vista on Friday, Amir Garrett had 18 points and 12 rebounds for the Mountain Lions in their win over the Trojans.

Dallin Molina had 14 points and 18 rebounds, Darian Yahyavi 16 points, Quinten Chow 13 points and Justice Odabi 11 points for Sierra Vista.

Anderson scored 12 points on four 3-pointers. Marvin Weekly added 10 points for the Trojans.
