Fundraiser rescheduled The Patio Cafe has moved the fundraiser and craft fair to 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Feb. 14, at 670 W. Basin Ave., to benefit West Star Ranch Big Dog Star animal rescue., 780 W. Manse Road. There will be receptacles for the donations of dry and canned dog food, bedding and cash. There will be local crafters and a chicken barbecue with all the fixin's will start at 11 a.m. The cost of the barbecue is $12.95 with a portion of the proceeds going to the dog rescue. EAA meets The Experimental Aircraft Association chapter 1160, will hold a meeting at 10 a.m. Feb. 7, in Phil Shallenberger's hangar, corner of Helicopter Road and Jet Place, at the Calvada Aeropark. NRA Youth Education Summit The National Rifle Association is accepting applications for outstanding high school sophomores and juniors to participate in the 12th annual Youth Education Summit to be held in Washington, D.C., July 7-13. The deadline for applications is March 2. Approximately 40 students will take part in the expense-paid, seven-day event. YES participants will compete for a total of $30,000 in college scholarships, $10,000 will be given at the conclusion of the event based on the initial application, on-site debates and speeches, and participation during the week's activities. Laureate Omicron The Laureate Omicron chapter of Beta Sigma Phi will meet at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 9, in the home of Rose Warrick, who will present the cultural program theme, "Recipes for Friendship." Members and guests will celebrate Valentine's Day Feb. 12 with dinner at a local restaurant. A recent drive for clothing and household items enabled the chapter to donate to No to Abuse. Free tax return service Pahrump tax aides are IRS trained counselors offering free tax return services beginning 9-3:30 p.m., every Wednesday and Saturday, Feb. 4 until April 22, at the Bob Ruud Community Center, Room B. The service is open to young, low income taxpayers and seniors who may qualify for Earned Income Credit and are not receiving it. A handicap or the working-hour challenged may make other arrangements by appointment only. Grant-writing workshop USDA Rural Development will hold a workshop to assist people interested in applying for rural business enterprise grants. The grants are available to eligible public bodies, private nonprofit corporations and federally recognized Indian tribal groups to finance and facilitate development of small and emerging private business enterprises.
