Sun's glare may have led to crash

By GINA B. GOOD

It was a beautiful day in the neighborhood Monday, when a pickup and an SUV collided about 4:45 p.m., at Blagg Road and Mesquite Avenue. The deployed airbag can be seen inside the SUV.

The sun was low in the clear blue sky late Monday afternoon when two vehicles approached the intersection of two busy streets.

One driver, a dispatcher for the Nye County Sheriff's Office, was headed for work, driving her SUV eastbound on Mesquite Avenue.

The other driver was in a pickup truck heading north on Blagg Road and stopped on the corner to let one vehicle pass, then continued to cross the road into the path of the SUV.

The collision caused damage to the front ends of both vehicles and the dispatcher was taken to the hospital by Pahrump Valley Fire-Rescue Services due to possible injury from the force of the airbag deployment.

The vehicles ended up entangled in the fence of Eagle Motors on Mesquite Avenue.

Sheriff's personnel said the angle of the sun likely prevented the driver of the pickup truck from seeing the second car approaching. Nevada Highway Patrol also responded to the scene. No names were released for publication.
