SHOSHONE, Calif. -- A motorcyclist died late Sunday morning on Badwater Road between Shoshone and Jubilee Pass, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The unidentified rider was apparently with three others on his way north toward Shoshone around 10:55 a.m. when, for some reason, his bike crossed the yellow line into the southbound lane.

The 2003 Yamaha continued across that lane to the west shoulder, where it struck a dirt embankment and overturned. Its speed at the time of the wreck has not been determined.

The three other riders began CPR and continued until highway patrol troopers, members of the Inyo County Sheriff's Office and fire emergency medical personnel arrived shortly before noon and took over.

A Mercy Air helicopter flew from Pahrump and reached the scene around 12:15 p.m. Mercy Air's on-call Dr. Dale Carrison pronounced the rider dead at 12:38 p.m. His body was turned over to the Inyo County coroner at 3:45 p.m.
