Latest Hollis recall fizzles
The second attempt to recall Nye County Commissioner Gary Hollis in three years ended like the first one, with only two petition signatures turned in Tuesday.

Nye tries to play Santa for Tonopah, Pahrump
The design of a Tonopah effluent project, estimated to cost $233,000, won out over two Pahrump park projects as the county's sole application for federal Community Development Block Grant funds this year.

Kid's play star of weekend
Christmas season hit full stride over the weekend; each day and evening were crammed with events for parents and children to enjoy. Not even overcast skies and cold rain deterred families from attending Pahrump-A-Pum-Pum's Winter Wonderland, held at the Pahrump Nugget to benefit Toys for Tots.

Feds plan to acquire Horseshutem Springs
A five-acre parcel around Horseshutem Springs near Mount Sterling in the Spring Mountains, is one of seven parcels of land totaling 5,026 acres that will be purchased for their conservation value for $11.7 million, U.S. Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced recently.

Commissioners buy new videoconferencing gear
A $160,000 videoconferencing system for the new county administration was approved by Nye County commissioners almost without discussion Tuesday, along with contracts for paving a north entrance to Desert View Hospital and reroofing the old county courthouse in Tonopah.
