The Beatty High School football team is preparing for its season opener: Sept. 4 at Spring Mountain in a Southern Nevada Class A Eight-Man football League game. Bruce Moen and Jerry Adcox are the football coaches; they have 17 boys preparing for that 2009 debut.

The Beatty High School volleyball team is preparing for its season opener: Sept. 4 in the Pahrump Valley High School Invitational volleyball tournament. Dale Lerbakken and Lindy Cruz are coaching a veteran Lady Hornets team, which includes eight seniors and as many as 10 juniors in preseason camp.
