Football RENO -- Peoria Centennial, the Arizona high school Class 5-A champion in 2008, overpowered McQueen 51-20 in the fourth annual Sonnenberger Classic Saturday at Mackay Stadium. McQueen, which went 14-0 to win Nevada's Class 4-A state title last season, could not contain senior halfback Anthony Hughes, who rushed for 120 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries for the Arizona champions. Centennial has now won 27 consecutive games and is 42-1 in its last 43 starts. McQueen has only one starter back from its championship team that edged Las Vegas Palo Verde 13-12 in the 2008 finale. Bowling The Pahrump Valley Tournament Bowling Club will hold a snakebite doubles tournament Saturday in the Nugget. Squad times will be at 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. for the tournament, to be contested with handicap and by divisions. The tournament is open to active members only. H&M Pipe and Supply and Dave and Sandi Williams will be the sponsors. Shark spikers The Rosemary Clarke Middle School volleyball camp and tryouts will be held through Friday in the Sharks' gym, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. The camp fee is $35. Tryouts for the RCMS teams will be held at the same time, as well as Aug. 31-Sept. 3. Bocce, anyone? Senior bocce ball players are wanted. Contact Ken Causey at 727-6413 for more information. IN THE FRIDAY TIMES The Pahrump Valley girls soccer and volleyball teams will play in tournaments Friday and Saturday. The soccer team will be in Reno, with the spikers in Las Vegas.
