Wilma Fulton Koenig Wilma Fulton Koenig, 99, died peacefully Aug. 19, 2009, in Las Vegas. She was born April 15, 1910, in Quilcene, Wash. Wilma graduated from Washington State University and received a degree in education. She taught physical education and coached basketball in Lake Quinault, Wash., until eventually relocating to Alaska. She married the late Norman Koenig, a career military man, in 1950, in Anchorage, Alaska, and they lived near military bases in many locations around the US before setting up home base in Pahrump in 1989. Wilma and Norman never lost their love for adventure and exploring new places. After Norman retired, he and Wilma traveled the country constantly in their RV, seeing many places and making many life-long friends. Wilma was an active member of the Red Hat Society, the Moose Lodge and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. She is survived by her loving daughter Terri Miller of Fremont, Calif., and her grandchildren, Jason and Kimberly Miller, of Fremont. A memorial service will be 11 a.m., Sept. 5 at the Moose Lodge. She will be buried at the Veterans Cemetery in Boulder City. (08/19/2009)
Richard Warren Fuge Richard Warren Fuge, 77, passed away Aug. 19, 2009, in Pahrump. He was born Jan. 28, 1932, in Tacoma, Wash., and moved to Pahrump 12 years ago from Sumner, Wash. He was a salesman of automotive supplies and a lifetime member of the Elks and Moose Lodge. He was a former NASCAR official and loved stock car racing. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Donna Fuge; children Sandra MacDonald and David W. Fuge; sister Tora Bologna; brother David Martin; grandchildren David Fuge Jr. and Thomas Fuge; great-grandchildren Rachel, Jackson, Logan, Payton and Kiera Fuge. Services were Aug. 25. (08/19/2009) Judith Arlene Akers Judith Arlene Akers, 65, passed away Aug. 20, 2009, in Pahrump. She was born Dec. 11, 1943, in Kansas City, Mo., and moved to Pahrump from Henderson in 1995. She was a customer service representative for Silver State Sanitation. She was a painter and she liked to paint Southwest and Western themes, and flowers and still life using oils as a medium. She was of the Presbyterian faith. She is survived by her children Dolene (Roger) Vernes, Ron (Christy) Purvines, Robert (Tammy) Purvines and Richard (Shamine) Purvines; one brother, nine grandchildren and her life partner, Don Gunter. She was preceded in death by her husband of 16 years, Don Akers. Services will be at Palm Mortuary-Eastern at a later date. (08/20/2009) ![]() Lela Stevens-Hall Lela Stevens-Hall, 79, passed away Aug. 22, 2009, in Las Vegas. She was born Feb. 5, 1930, in Lees Summit, Mo., and was a resident of Pahrump for 16 years, having come from Greenriver, Utah. She worked as a waitress and was of the Christian faith. Her husband, Vernon Hall of Pahrump, and daughters Brenda Gibbons of Pahrump, Cheryl Rabourn of Lees Summit and Charlotte Hillman of Hemet, Calif.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren survive her. Visitation was at 2 p.m. Aug. 25 followed by the service at 3 p.m. at the Pahrump Family Chapel. Donations may be made to the family in lieu of flowers. (08/22/2009) Sherry Elaine Grammer Huntsman
Sherry Elaine Grammer Huntsman, 59, died Aug. 15, 2009, in Las Vegas after a long battle with lung cancer. She was born Nov. 9, 1949, in Indianapolis, Ind., and was a resident of Pahrump for 20 years. She lived and worked in California and Nevada. Surviving are her loving husband Frank Huntsman; daughter Chimera Peet and stepsons Randy and Robey Humphrey. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Clift, and her daughter, Michelle Strehle. She was a sister, an aunt, a cousin and a friend to many and will always be remembered as Queen Mum by the Red Hatters with Attitude. The lives she touched with her love and laughter, and the grace and dignity she showed during her battle with lung cancer, serve as an inspiration to us all. Family and friends will gather to celebrate her life from noon to 3 p.m., Aug. 29 in the Artesia Community Center, 6601 Fox Ave. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Nathan Adelson Hospice, Las Vegas, in her name. (08/15/2009) Laura Evalyn Bowler Laura Evalyn Bowler, 75, of Richmond, Mo., died Aug. 19, 2009, at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Richmond. She was born Aug. 10, 1934, in Hanna, Mo., to Orville E. and Wilma L. (Edwards) Brandon. Survivors include sons Gene Johns of Las Vegas, and Micheal Langston of Tooele, Utah; daughters Vicki (David) VanSpeybroeck of Henrietta, Mo., Dena Sisco of Richmond and Patty (Fred) Rebujio of Tooele; brother Robert (Gayle) Brandon of Clinton, Mo.; sister Betty (Elvis) Ogle of Richland, Mo.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by husband, James G. Bowler; one brother and three sisters. She was of the Christian faith and had lived in Waynesville and Amargosa Valley before moving to Richmond in 2008. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Shirkey Foundation. Inurnment will be at a later date. (08/19/2009) ![]() Robert Leroy Lambert Robert Leroy Lambert, 82, passed away July 28, 2009, in Centralia, Wash. He was born Nov. 28, 1926, in LaPorte, Ind., and was a resident of Pahrump for 23 years, having come from California. He was a retired carpenter, a veteran of the Army and of the Christian faith. His wife of 60 years, Edith Lambert, of Pahrump; daughters Pauline Alexander of Pahrump, Mabaline DeCamp of Pahrump and Christene Storlie of Covina, Calif.; son Johnny Ray Lambert of Pahrump; 19 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren survive him. He was preceded in death by daughters Jacqueline Kay Bredl and Evelyne Elaine Stiles. The memorial service was at 3 p.m., Aug. 8 at Pahrump Family Mortuary. Burial followed.
