Back-to-school haircuts Outer You Salon will offer hair cuts for back-to-school a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 22. There is a charge for the haircuts and for styling, however, the Salvation Army is offering vouchers for those who cannot afford the $5 fee. Vouchers are available at the Salvation Army Social Services office next to the thrift store. Sheriff's open forum schedule Sheriff Tony DeMeo will hold public open forums at Wulfy's Sports Bar at 1 p.m. on the following dates: Aug. 23, Sept. 20, Oct. 18, Nov. 22 and Dec. 20. Amargosa food pantry There will be a food pantry for qualifying individuals 1-3 p.m., Aug. 27 at the Amargosa Senior Center, 443 E. Desert Senior Center Lane. Fundraiser car washes at Wulfy's The following organizations will hold fundraiser car washes in Wulfy's parking lot: Aug. 22 -- 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., PVHS Cross Country. Fashion show and flea market Second Baptist Ministries will have a free fashion show and flea market starting at 9 a.m. Aug. 22 in the Bob Ruud Community Center. The fashion show is scheduled for 3 p.m., and will feature Sunflower Fashions. Vendor spaces are available for $25 per booth. Call 727-1400 for more information. Car wash fundraiser There will be an "inside and out" car wash fundraiser to benefit Relay for Life from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 22 in the parking lot of Hollis Harris Realty. Dog Agility Club The UNR 4-H K-9 Kapers Dog Agility Club is looking for youth ages 10 to 18 and their dogs to have fun while teaching the animal to jump and go through tunnels and over bridges. P.O.S.S. schedule Pahrump Open Schooling Shows will host a fun day beginning at 8 a.m. Aug. 29 at Carousel Farms, 3440 N. The next horse show will be at 6 p.m. Sept. 12 in McCullough Arena. Art Gayton will be the judge. Awards will go to first-place and ribbons to first- through fifth-place. Nevada Silver Tappers Nevada Silver Tappers have scheduled beginning tap-dancing classes at 6 p.m. each Tuesdays, at 921 E. Blagg Road, for ladies who have reached the elegant age of 50. Nevada Silver Tappers is a group of senior women performing at various functions in the community as fundraisers for nonprofit organizations. United Way Luau The United Way Luau will be from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Aug. 22 in Honeysuckle Park. Dinner will be from 6-8:30 p.m. and Kahlua pig, chicken long rice, salad, lomi-lomi salmon and haupia will be on the menu for $6 per person. Hot dogs will be available for the kids for $2. Mai tais, beer, sodas and water will be available. Live entertainment of music and Hawaiian dancing directed by Paressa Wong, will begin at 7:30 p.m. Bring chairs and the family. Masonic BBQ The Masonic Lodge will have a family BBQ at 2 p.m. Aug. 22 at the lodge, 281 Gemini Dr. The menu will be cheeseburgers or giant hot dogs and all the fixin's, baked beans, potato salad and curly fries. Beverages and soda will be for sale. The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children under 12. The public is invited. Proceeds go to benefit the scholarship program. Fifth Sunday sing There will be an old fashioned hymn sing 6-7:15 p.m., Aug. 29 in the Bob Ruud Community Center. Several local church praise teams will share songs and there will be a puppet ministry presentation. The night will end with an ice cream social. Song teams wanting to share in participation should call Karl Ritterby, 751-1421. Churches may bring banners. Reenactors needed Volunteers are needed to participate in Civil War living history to be presented in conjunction with the Wild West Extravaganza, Sept. 19 and 20 at Saddle West.
