Death Valley takes a life
DEATH VALLEY, Calif. -- For the third time this year, someone has died due to the severe heat of a summer in the desert.

Assault arrest is made
The Nye County Sheriff's Office Friday arrested Pahrump resident Carl Blake, 35, on 12 counts of sexual asault and seven counts of child abuse.

The past as a press and policy tool
A few days ago I was swapping email messages with a historian friend and he mentioned Ray Knisley (pronounced nyze-lee), a formerly prominent Nevadan. I ran a search and found that Knisley had died in 1998 at age 99.

Kukol awarded replica of elusive cat
SALINAS, Calif. -- A rare likeness of the even rarer Andean Cat was presented to Pahrump resident Zuzana Kukol, of REXANO, in recognition of her generous support of research efforts sponsored by the Feline Conservation Federation.

Photographer Lance Dube has opened a portrait studio just two doors north of Albertson's. It's a big step for Dube, who has been in the business for just three years; however he said he has been taking pictures since he was a kid.

Alzheimer's seminar suggests how to stay sharp
Two representatives from the Alzheimer's Association in Las Vegas visited the Pahrump Senior Center on Friday. Program Manager Christine Terry and Family Care Consultant Shanna Grayson, a licensed social worker, presented their information in an interactive format that was lively and instructive.
