Pahrump Valley's boys golf team, third in the latest Sunset Region Southwest Class 4-A standings, played a division match at Angel Park Tuesday.

The Trojans, coached by Bob Hopkins, won their first 4-A division match ever last week to boost their points total to 33 -- four behind Las Vegas Bonanza (37) and three behind Bishop Gorman (36).

The Trojans are averaging 424 strokes per 18 holes, with Bonanza at 417.5 and Gorman 419.3. Sierra Vista is at 436.5, Spring Valley 447.8, Clark 531.8 and Desert Oasis 466.3. Durango and Western have not scored a point and neither has a team strokes average.

In the Southwest player of the year standings, Pahrump Valley's Shane Lindemann has 119 points to rank fourth behind Jacob Pinney, Sierra Vista (135); Yongsoo Shin, Bonanza (134) and Nick Sikorski, Gorman (119.5).

Connor Morris of Gorman has the division's best individual average (77 strokes per 18 holes), but is fifth with 117.5 points. Pinney is at 79.8 and Shin at 79.3, while Lindemann is at 81.3. Sikorski is averaging 80.8.

Pahrump Valley has four of the top 13 golfers (fourth, 10th, 12th, 13th) as well as 24th and 32nd, among the 54 who have scored at least three points.

Daniel Shimakawa, who fired a one-under par 71 in his last start, is ranked 10th (91 points, 84 average). Dorian Patel is 12th (86, 84), with Elliott Owens 13th (85.5, 84). Ryan Hammar is 24th at 42.0, 94.8, with Josh Spradlin 32nd at 17.5, 94.0.

Bonanza's individual stroke averages are 79.3, 83.3, 83.8, 85.8, 84.3 and 94.0, with Gorman at 79.3, 77.0, 85.5, 86.0, 88.3 and 92.3.

* Pahrump Valley played its former Southern 3-A rivals at Coyote Springs Thursday, shooting 448 on a warm and windy afternoon on the par 72, 6,807-yard course located north of Las Vegas.

Elliot Owens had 95, Shane Lindemann 78, Josh Spradlin 107, Ryan Hammar 88, Dorian Brant 84 and Curtis Weir 103. Dorian Patel and Daniel Shimakawa did not play.

Faith Lutheran, the 3-A league leader, had 427, with Overton Moapa Valley at 453, Mesquite Virgin Valley 459 and Boulder City 472.

Faith, which has 69 points and leads Moapa Valley by 12, was paced by player of the year points leader Yuko Kato's 77. Moapa Valley's Jon Oglesby shot 87, while Virgin Valley's Anthony Lucero had 86. Nick Hoffman had 84 for Boulder City.

Pahrump Valley plays May 5 at Siena and May 7 at Primm to close out the regular season.

* In the Sunset Northwest, Centennial leads the points standings with 39, just ahead of Palo Verde's 37. Arbor View has 32, Cimarron-Memorial 26, Shadow Ridge 23, Legacy 23, Cheyenne 12 and Mojave 9.

Palo Verde's Kyle Melchiorre, Errek McClellan and Tyler Pilarski rank first, fourth and eighth, respectively, in the Northwest player of the year standings. Centennial holds the division lead because of the play of Brad Rowland (third), Jake Barton (sixth) and Greg Kreber (seventh).

* In the Sunrise Region, the top teams are Henderson Coronado (Southeast) and Las Vegas (Northeast), with the leading players A.J. McInerney and Ted Darland of Coronado, Ray Gillip of Las Vegas and Giovanni Latty of Eldorado.

The regional tournaments are May 13-14; first-day action will be at The Badlands (Sunset) and Dragon Ridge (Sunrise), with the finals to be contested at Mountain Falls in Pahrump. The state tournament is May 20-21 at Sparks.
