Poker opener

Club MVC at the Mountain View Casino will introduce PokerPro automated poker tables at a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 5 p.m., Friday.

It will be Nevada's first off-Las Vegas Strip automated poker room.

Poker will begin daily at 10 a.m.; call 727-7777 and ask for Club MVC.

RCMS camp

The Rosemary Clarke Middle School football camp will be held Monday through Thursday on campus.

Current sixth- and seventh-graders will start at 2:15 p.m. and go to 4:15 p.m. Current fifth-graders will go from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The cost is $40 per player, with payment by cash or money order; no checks are permitted. The money will be used for equipment.

Registration is on the first day; a waiver must be signed by a parent on or before that first day.

Baseball clinic

Corey Skaggs, a professional instructor from Las Vegas, will hold a baseball clinic Friday, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Honeysuckle Park.

The focus will be on individual abilities and proper mechanics. Players should bring their own equipment.

The cost is $50 per player.

Pop Warner

Registration is now open for the 2009 Pop Warner football season.

Players 5 to 7 years old and weighing 75 pounds or less play for one team; the second team is for youth 8 to 11 who weigh 105 pounds or less.

The age is as of July 31, 2009. The cost of registration is $180. Registration forms can be picked up, and completed, at Worden's Farmers Insurance Agency, 2210 E. Commercial Road (off Highway 160 at the Nevada State Bank).

Office hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The Pahrump Pop Warner teams play in the Southern Nevada Conference. The Rush is in the Pee-Wee Division (ages 8 to 11) and will be coached by Robert Worden. The Sharks of the tiny-mite division (ages 5 to 7) will be coached by Damon Plant.

Teams are limited to 35 players, so early registration is encouraged. Practice will begin Aug. 3.

Prep football

The 28th annual Sertoma Football Classic will be played June 19 at Mackay Stadium, on the campus of the University of Nevada, in Reno.

Kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m. for the game that features 100 high school players from Nevada.

The head coaches will be Rick Walker of Dayton and Jeff Knutson of Fernley.

Players from 33 Nevada high schools from Nevada, Lake Tahoe and Truckee (Calif.) will be on the rosters.

Proceeds benefit Sertoma Club charities.

Farmers Cup

The Farmers Cup Adult-Junior Golf Series will be played June 14, July 12 and Aug. 9.

The tournament format calls for an adult and a junior player to form a team for medal play. Players 6-8 and 9-11 will play nine-hole matches, while players 12-14 and 15-18 will compete in 18-hole rounds.

The costs are $20 for all junior players; $25 for adults playing with a 6-8 or 9-11 golfer and $35 for adults playing in an 18-hole match.

Pre-registration will be required before each match, with the deadlines June 10 for the first round, July 8 for the second, and Aug. 5 for the finale. All matches will be played at Mountain Falls.

First-place medals will be awarded in each division. First-, second- and third-place teams in each age division will receive medals.

Hoop camps

*Applications are now being evaluated for the Ten-Star All-Star Basketball Camp, for boys and girls 10 to 19 years old.

Ranch rodeo

The second Pahrump Open Ranch Rodeo will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday in McCullough Arena.

Action will begin at 7 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday; the Sunday start is at 2 p.m.

The events will be bareback riding, team roping, chute dogging, barrel racing and hide racing.

Rocking M Rodeo will produce the rodeo.
