Billy Clinton Herren

Billy Clinton Herren, long time resident of Pahrump, passed away April 20, 2009, with his family by his side.

Billy was born to Berle and Effie Herren in Hermann, Mo., Aug. 10, 1930.

Billy enlisted into the U.S. Navy in 1947, and was a veteran of the Korean War. While in the Navy he met his wife of 56 years Beverly. After they were married, they lived in California for a number of years where Billy worked as a journeyman carpenter.

In 1968, Billy became a firefighter for the U.S. Air Force and in 1970 started his Alaskan adventure moving the family to Clear AFS, Alaska.

While in Alaska Billy gave his time to a number of community groups such as the Clear Sky Sportsman Club, Ducks Unlimited and Clear Driftbusters Snowmachine Club.

No matter where Billy lived he was always helping someone, whether it was building a structure, fixing a car or hauling a moose.

There was nothing Billy was unable to accomplish or lend a hand to. During Billy's stay in Alaska he worked on the construction of the Alaskan Pipeline as a fire inspector. After his pipeline years Billy returned to Clear AFS where he eventually retired in 1990.

Billy and Beverly then moved to Pahrump where they built their retirement home and enjoyed their retirement years in the desert. As soon as they got to Pahrump Billy started helping out in the community as he became a member of the volunteer fire department and took over the pro shop at the local bowling center.

Billy loved to have family in from all over the country for visits to enjoy his pool where he loved to spend time as well as golfing and just taking in the Pahrump and Las Vegas area.

Billy is survived by his wife Beverly; children Ron Herren, Rob Herren and Cindy Herren; Ron's family Donnette, Salina and Joshua; Rob's family Nancy, Nicci and Jeff; seven great-grandchildren; brothers Elwood Walker and Bobby Herren; sisters Moetta Escareno, Betty White, Jean Stoy and Doris McCarthy.

Billy was preceded in death by his parents Berle and Effie Herren and brother Morris Herren.

Since Billy was a no fuss guy, he did not want a formal service, the family will celebrate Billy's life with a barbecue at Billy and Bev's home in Pahrump.

In lieu of flowers, because Billy loved and cared for his animals in and around his home, the family requests donations be made in his name to the Animal Friends Rescue Project at www.animalfriendsrescue.org, or P.O. Box 51083, Pacific Grove, CA 93950.

Anyone who wishes to send cards should send them to 3651 Kick Street, Pahrump, NV 89048. (04/20/2009)
