Cinderella Girls wash cars The Cinderella Girls are setting up car washes to raise money for the scholarship fund. Public service announcement The Nye County Sheriff’s Office offers a free service to check for sex offenders living in your area. The service has been in existence since 2006. PAVED seminar PAVED will present The Pahrump Business Entitlement Process Workshop 6-8 p.m. May 7 at the Bob Ruud Community Center. Swadell memorial The Artesia Community Center will host a memorial for Bob Swadell at 1:30 p.m. April 26 in the clubhouse. Coffee and cookies will be served and attendees will have the opportunity to share experiences and remembrances. Skate against cancer Pahrump Valley High School will host a fundraiser from 5:30-8:30 p.m. April 26 at Skate Zone. This event is open to everyone and is to raise money for our Relay for Life team. Cost is $5 and all monies raised will go to the American Cancer Society. Those interested in joining the team, contact Reva at 727-0911 or stop by the Skate Zone on April 26. Donations are accepted. Rummage sale Pahrump Valley United Methodist Church will hold its spring/summer rummage sale 8-4 p.m., May 1 and 8-1 p.m. May 2, at the church, 1300 E. Highway 372. Library summer reading The Pahrump Community Library Summer Reading Club is coming soon. Signup now for “Be Creative at Your Library,” June 16-July 22. A kick-off presentation with storyteller Glenda Bonin, “Just imagine: Stories for the fun of it,” will be 10 a.m. June 16. Regular classes will begin the following week: ages 4-5, 9-10 a.m., Wednesday; ages 6-11, 1-2:15 p.m., Tuesdays or 10:30-11:45 a.m., Wednesdays; fifth grade and up, 2:30-3:30 p.m., Tuesdays. Vidalia onions The Shriners of Pahrump Valley will have sweet vidalia onions for sale at Walmart, Ace Hardware and Smith’s Food and Drug the first week in May. Arbor Day ice cream social Child’s Play Learning Center will host an ice cream social and outdoor art experience 3:30-4:30 p.m. April 24, corner of Pahrump Valley Boulevard and South Mt. Charleston Drive. There will be decorate your own sundae, decorating the playground with sidewalk chalk, bubble blowing and painting with homemade edible watercolors. The children will be planting flowers and a tree 10:30-11 a.m. SNAPS yard sale SNAPS (spay/neutering all pets and strays) is having a yard sale 9-5 p.m. May 1 and 7-2 p.m. May 2 at Sunflower Fashions, Highway 160 and Loop Road. Rotary Club scholarships The Pahrump Valley Rotary Club will award two $500 academic scholarships to graduating seniors for the 2008-09 school year to attend an accredited college or trade school of choice. Family day Family to Family Connection will hold a family day noon-2 p.m., April 24 at the Pahrump Community Library. Food drive Nye County Emergency Services will hold a food drive 10-2 p.m., April 24 in the parking lot of Smith’s Food and Drug on Highway 160. Volunteers will be collecting non-perishable items including peanut butter, rice, jellies, noodles and canned meats, fruit, soups and vegetables in an effort to keep the food banks full. Among the many items for sale will be household and office supplies and scrapbooking materials. All items were donated and most are brand new. Nothing will be over $5. Employment Seminar Faith Fellowship will sponsor a free employment seminar, “How to Land a Job in Las Vegas: Don’t Gamble with Your Career,” at 10 a.m. April 25 at the church, 925 S. Highway 160. Beta Xi and Laureate Omicron The Beta Xi and Laureate Omicron chapters of Beta Sigma Phi will come together at 11:30 a.m. April 25 to celebrate the 78th anniversary of Beta Sigma Phi. Wild horse audition America’s Wild Horse Advocates will sponsor a demonstration of the use of trained wild horses in service to Southern Nevada Mounted Police Units at 2 p.m. May 2 at McCullough Arena. Taser, a wild horse from the Tule Lake area of Northern California and trained by Tom Shiloh, will be strutting his abilities for representatives of the Nye County Sheriff’s Office. The program is made possible by donations of concerned citizens, the National Mustang Association, America’s Wild Horse Advocates and Nevada Horse Power. Gospel Joy Central Valley Baptist Church will host Gospel Joy in a special performance at 6 p.m. May 3, 3170 S. Blagg Road. Joy was home-schooled in Quartzite, Ariz., and loves Jesus.
