License numbers wrong: NDOW
The Nevada Department of Wildlife has identified an incorrect phone number listed on hunting and fishing licenses sold at point of sale locations, such as retail sporting goods outlets. Approximately 50 of Nevada's 160 license agents are presently using the point of sales system to sell licenses. The phone number is for the Operation Game Thief (OGT) program, which should have been printed as 1-800-992-3030. The incorrect number refers callers to a phone line that is not a Department number. "We regret this printing error, and are in the process of recalling unused license stock," said Bob Haughian, chief of operations for the department. "Licenses that have already been purchased are just fine to keep and use, but we want to make anglers and hunters aware of the error so they have the correct phone number to report wildlife violations." According to Chief Game Warden Rob Buonamici, the Operation Game Thief hotline receives hundreds of calls each year. Callers can anonymously report wildlife crime, and may receive rewards. Many calls come from honest sportsmen and women who witness wildlife crimes while in the field. The program is an invaluable tool used by game wardens to discover and solve wildlife crime in Nevada. |
