Mt. Charleston Elementary School library is one of 4,000 across the nation selected by the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Library Association to receive free hardcover editions of 17 classic books as part of the "We the People" Bookshelf Grant Program.

The theme of this year's Bookshelf is "Picturing America."

The award is part of the NEH's "We the People" initiative, which supports projects that strengthen the teaching, study and understanding of American history and culture.

Selected public school libraries in all 50 states will receive a set of 22 books (including Spanish translations and two bonus titles), posters, bookmarks, bookplates from NEH and ALA, and access to online planning and promotional materials.

For more information about "We the People" Bookshelf programs at the Mt. Charleston Elementary School library, contact Cindy Deweese at 727-7892 x 536.
