Senior pageant tomorrow at the Maverick

Seven women will compete for the title of Ms. Senior America Nye County 2009 during the third annual pageant, to be staged at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Maverick Dance Hall and Saloon, 340 E. Mesquite Ave. The winner will advance to the Ms. Senior Nevada Pageant Aug. 26 at Southpoint Casino in Las Vegas. The contestants include: * Lou Ann Zilla is a belly dancing instructor and formerly taught at First Move Fitness. She has also been a dancer. Zilla has been a resident of Pahrump for nine years. She will do a belly dance for her talent show. * The Rev. Carole Fucillo is a local minister and performs weddings at the Maverick. Fucillo has been a resident of Pahrump for 10 years. Fucillo will dance to "Tequila." * Arnette Felt moved to Pahrump iin August from southern California. She volunteers at the Pahrump Senior Center and helps with paperwork, weddings and sound checks at the Maverick. Felt will be singing "Young at Heart." * Laura Bush has lived in Pahrump for three years. She came from Denver. Bush plans to mime "Diamonds Are a Girls Best Friend." * Venita Frederick has been a resident of Pahrump for nine years. She plans to marry Dan Bighaus, an Elvis impersonator, this September in Hawaii. Frederick was a contestant in the Ms. Senior America Nye County Pageant last year and also ran for Ms. Senior Nevada several years ago. While Frederick can dance, she plans to sing "I Could've Danced All NIght" for her talent show. * Shary Jimerfield was also a contestant last year. She won the title of Miss Congeniality in the 2007 Ms. Senior America Nye County Pageant. Jimerfield plans to sing the same number as last year, "Allegheny Moon." * Mary McGuire was also in the pageant last year where she finished second runner-up. She was a Ms. Senior Nye County in 1996 but her beauty pageant career stems all the way back to the age of five when she was named Miss Los Angeles. McGuire had the first humane society in Pahrump She still rescues animals, as well as bowls and dances with Scottie Winegar's Dancing Steps Follies. For her talent show, McGuire will dance to "Mama Morton." The seating capacity is 150.
