Easter trail ride is successful for NAHPVT
Pahrump Equines Trail Riding Association (PETRA) and Faith Fellowship Church created a special day for the riders in the second annual Easter Sunday Trail Ride benefitting Nathan Adelson Hospice. This year's event brought out 32 riders including one young boy whose feet barely made it into the stirrups. The three-hour ride began with an invocation and a brief spiritual celebration of Easter was given at the turnaround point. The riders returned to Faith Fellowship for a lunch of homemade chili and corn bread. Trail Boss Jim Hannah had the riders well organized with help from Micki Gillespie and Doug Shaw. All riders were saddled up and on the trail by the 8:30 target time. PETRA had planned and marked the trail in advance, being sure it was a less rocky ride and making it easier for less experienced riders. The scenery was beautiful and "We couldn't have asked for a better day," was the frequently heard comment. Volunteers are already talking about next year's event which will include horses made available to experienced riders who no longer have horses of their own and the addition of a riderless, memorial horse. For a donation, the memorial horse will carry the name of a loved one. The ride raised nearly $1,000 and Nathan Adelson Hospice staff and volunteers are thankful to the group of people who participated. To learn more about how to participate in support of the hospice, Call Tonya Brum, 751-5601.
