Records: Bonanza baseball 3-2 division, 8-11 all games; Bonanza softball 4-1 division, 19-3 all games. PVHS baseball 2-4 division, 5-12 all games; PVHS softball 2-3-1 division, 5-9 all games.

2009 series: First meeting. At Bonanza May 5.

In division baseball: Bonanza lost 7-3 to Spring Valley; d. Western 24-1; d. Desert Oasis 12-2; d. Clark 12-4; lost 7-3 to Durango. PVHS d. Clark 8-4; lost 10-3 to Durango; lost 15-0 to Sierra Vista; lost 14-0 to Bishop Gorman; d. Western 9-0; lost 14-8 to Desert Oasis.

In division softball: Bonanza d. Spring Valley 16-2; d. Western 12-0; d. Clark 6-1; d. Desert Oasis 2-1; lost 10-0 to Durango. (At Bishop Gorman Tuesday). PVHS lost 8-2 to Clark; lost 12-2 to Durango; d. Gorman 15-5; d. Western 16-1; lost 10-1 to Desert Oasis. Played 14-14, 11-inning tie with Sierra Vista in suspended game (to be completed April 23 at Sierra Vista).

Next games: Bonanza -- Sierra Vista (Friday), at Spring Valley (Monday), Western (Tuesday). PVHS -- at Spring Valley (Friday), at Clark (Monday), Durango (Tuesday).

Bottom line: The division season is not yet at the halfway point, but it is never too early to start thinking about the playoffs ... In baseball, Bonanza was third in the Southwest, 2-1/2 games behind Gorman, going into Tuesday's game against the Gaels, who were riding a 16-game winning streak ... PVHS is in seventh place in its first season in Class 4-A. In softball, Bonanza is in hot pursuit of division-leading Durango (6-0 Southwest) ... PVHS, which qualified for the Nevada state tournament six times in its last seven seasons in Class 3-A, is seventh in its inaugural 4-A campaign.

The playoffs: The Sunset regionals will involve the top four teams (in both sports) from the Southwest and Northwest divisions and will be played May 12-13-14-15. The host sites for baseball are Centennial and Sierra Vista; in softball, all games will be played at the Stephanie Lynn Craig fields in Henderson May 12-13-14-15. ... First-round pairings in both sports are Northwest No. 1 vs. Southwest No. 4, Northwest No. 3 vs. Southwest No. 2, Southwest No. 1 vs. Northwest No. 4 and Southwest No. 3 vs. Northwest No. 2 ...The College of Southern Nevada in Henderson will be the site for the state tournament May 21-22-23, with Craig fields to host the state softball playoffs May 22-23 ... All tournaments are double-elimination.
