Rummage sale

Pahrump Valley United Methodist Church will hold its spring/summer rummage sale 8-4 p.m., May 1 and 8-1 p.m. May 2, at the church, 1300 E. Highway 372.

There will be furniture, books, household items, clothing, linens, toys and crafts.

MC visits Veteran Memorial Park

The Southern California "Choir Boys" Motorcycle Club will visit Pahrump April 18.

The region VII event extends to Las Vegas and Pahrump.

Largely a veterans group, they will visit the G.G. Sweet Veterans Memorial Park at 11 a.m.

Several new weapons displays at the museum will be featured.

Volunteer luncheon canceled

The Nye County School District has announced the Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon has been canceled this year due to economics

This does not mean the volunteers will not be recognized. A special thank you goes to each and every one of them.

Certificates of appreciation will be sent to the school principals for recognition and thanks.

Friends of the Library meet

Pahrump Friends of the Library will meet at 9:15 a.m. May 2 in the conference room.

Meet the Ombudsman

LAS VEGAS -- The real estate division has scheduled "Meet the Ombudsman" event at 11 a.m. April 17 in the Bob Ruud Community Center.

Sessions last for about two hours.

The events are designed to help homeowners association residents understand their rights and responsibilities and the role of the Nevada Office of the Ombudsman in resolving disputes.

Ombudsman Lindsay Waite and education officer, Nick Haley will present information on services.

HOA residents will learn how to conduct business and be able to ask questions.

ARES yard sale

The local chapter of ARES/RACES will have a yard sale 8-2 p.m. April 17 and 18, at 2651 E. Dandelion St.

No early birds.

ARES/RACES is a nonprofit, all volunteer group providing emergency and public service communications.

The proceeds will help purchase equipment needed to provide effective communications.

Chamber calendar

Biz Expo kick-off and membership mixer

There will be a kick-off breakfast and mixer at 8:30 a.m., April 23 in the events center of the Pahrump Nugget.

Biz Expo exhibitors admitted free with a ticket.

The keynote speaker will be Tom Saitta, business owner/entrepreneur/entertainer.

The cost is $10 for members not exhibiting in the Expo and $20 for non-members.

Vendors, there’s still time

The 11th annual Biz Expo will be April 24 and 25 in the Pahrump Nugget Events Center. This is the premier event sponsored by the chamber and it is a great time to showcase a business to the community. Admission to the public is free.

Biz Expo April 24-25

This is the largest trade show in rural Southern Nevada.

The hours will be noon-7 p.m., Friday and 9-7 p.m., Saturday. Admission is free.

Fast Track program

The Nye County adult education program is offering GED testing and courses.

The GED test can be used to waive English, math, science and social studies electives depending on test scores.

Nevada High School Proficiency Exams with passing scores are a prerequisite, and the adult education offers those classes as well.

Pahrump tea party

Pahrump taxpayers tired of the federal government’s policies which are increasing national debt and mortgaging the future of future generations will gather in protest 1-3 p.m. April 18 at 1330 Highway 160, next to Saddle West.

There will be food, speakers and fun.

Coin Club meets

The recently formed Pahrump Valley Coin Club will meet at 10 a.m. May 2 in the UNR Cooperative Extension office, corner of Dandelion Street and Calvada Boulevard.

The meetings are open to anyone interested in coins, paper money, token, medals, ancient coins and gold coins.

Spring fling

Windrock Ranch and Pahrump Western Fellowship will hold church, a barbecue and a day of learning with your horse beginning at 10 a.m. April 26 at Windrock Ranch, 4779 W. Bell Vista Avenue.

There will be music by karaoke host Jimmy D and those attending church will receive a free ticket for a gift drawing.

There is a suggested donation of $5 for the barbecue, kids under 10 years old eat free.

Vidalia onions

The Shriners of Pahrump Valley will have sweet vidalia onions for sale at Walmart, Ace Hardware and Smith’s Food and Drug the first week in May.

Manse Elementary fundraiser

Manse Elementary School will hold a fundraiser 7-11 a.m. April 25 at the school.

Among the many items for sale will be household and office supplies and scrapbooking materials.

All items were donated and most are brand new. Nothing will be over $5.

RPEN meets

The Pahrump chapter of Retired Public Employees of Nevada will meet at 3 p.m. April 16 in the library.

The guest speaker will be a representative from Valley Electric Association.

Food drive

Nye County Emergency Services will hold a food drive 10-2 p.m. April 24 in the parking lot of Smith’s Food and Drug on Highway 160.

Volunteers will be collecting non-perishable items including peanut butter, rice, jellies, noodles and canned meats, fruits, soups and vegetables in an effort to keep the food banks full.

There will be disaster preparedness information available as well.
