Choral group to perform at Summerlin church

UNLV festival to celebrate African-American music

The UNLV Department of Music will present the ninth annual African-American Music Festival at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the Artemus W. Ham Concert Hall at UNLV, 4505 S. Maryland Parkway. More than 100 musicians will perform in the festival, including UNLV choral ensembles, guest high school choirs, solo performances by university undergraduate and graduate vocal performance majors and voice faculty member Tod Fitzpatrick.

General admission is $10 and $8 for seniors and military personnel. Students can receive one free ticket. For tickets, call the UNLV Performing Arts Center Box Office at 895-2787.

Ring of fire to salute country greats

A 77th birthday tribute to Johnny Cash is planned for 3 p.m. Sunday at the Starbright Theatre, 2251 Thomas Ryan Blvd.

Jimmie Ray & Ring of Fire's tribute to Johnny Cash and June Carter, with Cyndi Cantrel, takes audiences back in time with a musical journey that spans six decades.

Tickets are $13 for Sun City Summerlin residents and $15 for nonresidents.

'The House of Blue Leaves' comes to LVLT

Las Vegas Little Theatre presents "The House of Blue Leaves," a play by John Guare, Thursday through March 1 at the theater, 3920 Schiff Drive.

Funny, tragic, and touching, "The House of Blue Leaves" offers a look at the ordinary in an interesting way through the life of Artie Shaughnessy, an aspiring songwriter.

Performances are at 8 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, at 2 p.m. Sunday, at 8 p.m. Feb. 26, 27 and 28, and at 2 p.m. March 1. Tickets are $22 for adults and $19 for seniors and students. Group rates are available for groups of 10 or more.

The Cirque du Soleil Cultural Action Department presents the fifth annual Collective art exhibition at The Rever Gallery at the Arts Factory, 107 E. Charleston Blvd., through Feb. 27.

Town Square announcesFebruary wine walk

Tickets are on sale now for Wine Walk -- The Big One, a wine-tasting event benefiting New Vista Community from 4 to 8 p.m. Feb. 28 at Town Square Las Vegas, 6605 Las Vegas Blvd. South. The event will showcase wines from DeLuca Liquor & Wines paired with cuisine from the valley's favorite restaurants.

New Vista Community is a local charity dedicated to providing equal opportunities and support for people with intellectual challenges of all ages. Through their housing programs, life skills training, recreational programs and respite, they help people with disabilities become more independent.

Tickets are $75 in advance or $100 at the door and can be purchased at all Lee's Discount Liquor stores in Las Vegas or online at www.NewVistaCommunity.org.

Swadell memorial

The Artesia Community Center will host a memorial for Bob Swadell at 1:30 p.m. April 26 in the clubhouse.

Coffee and cookies will be served and attendees will have the opportunity to share experiences and remembrances.
