Nugget Steakhouse hosts wine event

Stockman's Steakhouse will present a special evening of food and wine beginning at 5:30 p.m., Monday, April 20.

The event will be held in the banquet room at the rear of the restaurant.

Wine isn't new to the steakhouse; there are 50 wines on its wine list. This event will showcase some of them in light of food pairing and information on styles of wines.

On the menu is a choice of thyme-encrusted brick chicken or tournedos of filet with a demi-glace. Both entrees will be served with a sautéed medley of fresh vegetables, roasted red bliss potatoes and a choice of the soup of the day or a fresh house salad. A complimentary glass of one showcased wine is included with the meal.

The tasting will feature six wines, three white and three red. Included are a German riesling, an Italian pinot grigio and an Australian chardonnay in the whites.

The red wines are all from California and will feature a bottle blended of three varietals, a pinot noir and a petite syrah. A cheese tray with assorted crackers will accompany the tasting.

This will be the first of these wine dinners and tastings presented by Stockman's Steakhouse and hosted by the Pahrump Valley Times entertainment editor, Charlene Dean, who is also a wine lover.

She will provide a little information on the wines and food pairing and on styles of wines to the tasters.

Dean's wine knowledge began when she, like a number of others, would order a bottle of wine not knowing whether it complimented her meal. Growing tired of making mistakes, she sought out a wine appreciation course taught by a sommelier in her native Virginia.

Dean doesn't claim to be an expert, but she has had the opportunity to sample wines from all over the world and enjoys shedding light for other wine drinkers who have experienced confusion when choosing a wine to accompany a meal.

The wines on the list at Stockman's Steakhouse can be pricey. Operations Manager Jeffery Rathjen has specially priced the tasted wines at a 30 percent discount for attendees wanting to add to their collection. Wines can be taken home by the bottle, case or mixed case as well. Rathjen will discount full cases another 5 percent.

Participants will be furnished with tasting notes to keep track of personal preferences and orders will be placed at the end of the evening.

The cost of the tasting and dinner is $40 per person.

Reservations are limited to 20 and should be made early. Call 751-6500 after 4 p.m. and ask for the steakhouse, or the café personnel will take them anytime.
