TONOPAH -- Nye County Commissioner Lorinda Wichman stuck with her conviction government shouldn't get involved with private business, but she was the only one who voted Tuesday against spending $18,000 to $25,000 on a study of taking over Pahrump Utility Co.


Osborne probationary period declared over
TONOPAH -- Nye County Commissioner Butch Borasky had insisted on a one-year probationary period for County Manager Rick Osborne when he was hired last July, but it was Borasky who pushed for lifting his probationary status early at Tuesday's meeting.

TONOPAH -- A slimmed down 2008-09 chip seal program costing $1.22 million was approved by Nye County commissioners Tuesday, with some of the project to be funded in the next fiscal year beginning July 1.

TONOPAH -- Visitors at county offices won't be offered free bottled water any more, as Nye County gets down to saving nickels and dimes in an attempt to cut the budget.

TONOPAH -- Nye County commissioners decided Tuesday not to look a gift horse in the mouth in requesting 12 new deputies which would be fully funded by the U.S. Department of Justice COPS Recovery Hiring Program.

TONOPAH -- An application will be submitted for a $195,000 preliminary engineering report on recycling Tonopah effluent, for a second round of $740,431 available in federal community development block grants under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, commonly known as the stimulus package.
