17 SCHOOLS, 100 PLAYERS TO COMPETE Trojan golf tourney starts Monday

Tonopah has entered three players in the Pahrump Valley Invitational Golf tournament, to be played Monday and Tuesday at Mountain Falls. Seventeen schools from California, Arizona and Nevada are in the tournament for high school boys teams.. The 36-hole medal play tournament will be played on the par 72, 6,500-yard Mountain Falls course. Co-hosts Pahrump Valley and Las Vegas Desert Oasis are from the Sunset Region Southwest Class 4-A Division. Bob Hopkins coached the PV boys, while Larry Goins directs the Desert Oasis golfers. Tonopah coach Robert Otteson entered juniors Denver Otteson and Chris Greber and sophomore Alex Bridgman Denver Otteson will start at 1:30 p.m., with a foursome including players from Las Vegas Spring Valley, Phoenix Northwest Christian and West Wendover. Greber will start at 1:38 p.m., with his foursome including Pahrump Valley Maroon, Northwest Christian and West Wendover. Bridgman will tee off at 1:53 p.m., with two golfers from Pahrump Valley and one from Desert Oasis completing the foursome. Mater Dei, (2 teams); * Phoenix (Ariz.) Northwest Christian; * Boulder City, Southern Nevada Class 3-A League; * Tehachapi, Calif.; * Mesquite Virgin Valley (2 teams); 3-A; * Sedona (Ariz.) Red Rock; * Las Vegas Bishop Gorman (2 teams); Gorman is in the Sunset Region Southwest 4-A Division; * Las Vegas Palo Verde (2 teams); Northwest 4-A; * Las Vegas Sierra Vista; Southwest 4-A; * Las Vegas Arbor View; Northwest 4-A; * Las Vegas Bonanza; Southwest 4-A. West Wendover, from the Southern Nevada Class 2-A League, will send two golfers. Including several extra players from most of the teams, a total of 100 golfers will compete in the medal play tournament on the par 72, 6,500-yard course. Henderson Coronado Blue (Sunrise Southeast 4-A) won the 2008 title with 661, seven strokes ahead of Palo Verde Silver. Bonanza Brown had 700, with Pahrump Valley at 703. The first tee time Monday is 11 a.m., with foursomes to start every eight minutes through 2 p.m. Action resumes at 8 a.m. April 7, with teams and individuals divided into three flights, determined by their scores. Pahrump Valley Gold tee times are 11 a.m., 11:08, 11:15 and 11:23 a.m. Pahrump Valley Maroon golfers go out at 1:38 p.m., 1:45, 1:53 and 2. |
