LUCAS OFFROAD SERIES Bobby Woods in Primm raceSPECIAL TO THE PVT Bobby Woods, the 22-year-old son of long-time motorsports standout Bobby Woods of Pahrump, is among the entries for the newly-formed Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series. The series debuts with a two-day show Saturday and Sunday at the Primm Valley Motorsports Complex in Southern Nevada. This fast paced form of motorsports, also referred to as stadium off road racing, combines the treachery of dirt track racing with the left and right hand turns of road courses and, just to make things a more interesting, the race course also features motocross style jumps that challenges the skills of the drivers. The race vehicles representing the various classes runs the gamut from full size, four- and two-wheel drive, trucks all the way to custom karts that are driven by youngsters. Woods will drive in the Pro 2 Division, which features 900-horsepower, two-wheel drive trucks. He built the vehicle with a crew that includes John Trent, Chris Banning, Tyler Hilderbrand, Kyle Johnson, Jared and Ed Bomberra, Jeremy Saeger and his father. The older Woods will be the spotter, with Jared the crew chief. There has been additional help from Robby Woods, Dan Harris, Roy Mankins, Sam Stringer and Pappy Wienbarger, along with "Uncle Buzz," said the older Woods. "We had several top 10s last year and fully expect to win a few and be on the podium every week," said Woods. The sponsors include King Shocks, BFG Tires, Gator Wraps, Custom Colors, Carter Motorsports, KN Filters andMonster Energy Drink. This new racing series was placed under the auspices of Lucas Oil's Race Promotions in early January. Geico Insurance was recruited and the series' official title became the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series Presented by Geico Powersports. NBC Sports recently acquired the rights to air the series' season finale in November, also in Primm, on live television. Additional broadcast agreements were signed with the Versus Network, the Outdoor Channel and Mav TV that will focus on the series smaller classes. This agreement insures that the LOORRS Super Lite, Buggy and Kart divisions will also be included in the national television coverage. In recent days K&N Performance Filters signed on as the series' purse sponsors which raised the prize money for a LOORRS weekend to approximately $120,000. The winner's check for the series' two major divisions, the unlimited two- and four- wheel drive classes, will now be $15,000.
