FISHING
QUAGGA REMINDER: The Nevada Department of Wildlife is asking boaters to take the necessary precautions to prevent the spread of quagga mussels from the Colorado River system to other waters. Thoroughly clean, drain and dry your boat, trailer and towing vessel before traveling to another water. LAKE MEAD The Vegas Wash area continues to produce fair-sized stripers. Typical baits are cut anchovies, sardines, and squid. Boulder Beach has been slow with only a few stripers caught after the last trout plant. In the Overton Arm, Stewart's Point has been producing stripers on anchovies and cut baits. This area also produces some good largemouth and smallmouth fishing. LAKE MOHAVE Trout fishing slowed down over the weekend with only two trout reported in the creel. Both were caught on a Daredevil spoon and a jig. Anglers fishing for stripers down the river caught fish from three to 21 pounds. All fish were caught using AC plugs and other trout imitations. Striper fishing at Cottonwood Cove remains fair to good for both shore and boat anglers. Anglers continue to catch stripers in the two- to six-pound range while trolling with cut bait like anchovies and sardines. Catfish and smaller stripers in the 12- to 15-inch size are taking cut bait. Largemouth bass from 1.5 to 5 pounds have been taking top-water and shallow-diving lures. WAYNE E. KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA Fishing has been fair for shore anglers and good for boat anglers with trout averaging 14-inches at Adams-McGill. Haymeadow and Cold Springs have been producing mostly planters with a few carry-over fish from last fall's trout plants. |
