Trojans sweep Southwest foes

Mike Gonzalez, after missing almost two weeks of the season, threw a four-hitter, as visiting Pahrump Valley defeated Las Vegas Western 9-0 in Sunset Region Southwest Class 4-A baseball Tuesday.

Gonzalez, a senior righthander, struck out eight and walked four.

Danny Cazier was 4-for-4 with a double and Eddie Martinez went 3-for-4 with a triple and four RBIs for Pahrump.

The Trojans played at Desert Oasis Thursday and will compete in the Blazer Bash Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at Palo Verde.

In softball, Pahrump Valley ripped homestanding Western 16-1.

Taylor Raymer finished 3-for-4 for Pahrump, which scored nine runs in the first inning.

Tranyce Rankin was the winning pitcher for the Trojans, who played at Desert Oasis Thursday and will compete in the Kingman (Ariz.) Pepsi Classic Friday and Saturday.

In track, Pahrump Valley's boys and girls defeated homestanding Desert Oasis, along with Las Vegas Agassi Prep Wednesday.

In other Southwest baseball games:

Bonanza 12, Desert Oasis 2 -- At Bonanza, Bonanza's Mario struck out 10 and allowed five hits in five innings and also slammed a two-run homer to help the Bengals to a 12-2 home win over Desert Oasis.

Durango 16, Clark 2 -- At Clark, Danny Reynolds was 3-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs to help the Trailblazers defeat the Chargers.

In softball:

Sierra Vista 13, Bishop Gorman 4 -- At Sierra Vista, Ashley Krumme went 5-for-5 with a double and three runs as the Mountain Lions downed the Gaels.

Bonanza 2, Desert Oasis 1 -- At Bonanza, Emily Osborn scored the winning run from third base on a dropped fly ball in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Bengals improved to 14-0. Courtney Spencer tossed a four-hitter and struck out eight for Bonanza.

Durango 6, Clark 1 -- At Clark, Jaexie Balilea went 2-for-4 with a double and Samantha Juarez added two hits, including a double, as the Trailblazers downed the Chargers.
