Still shorthanded for a variey of reasons, the Pahrump Valley High School baseball team didn't threaten powerful Las Vegas Bishop Gorman Monday, bowing 14-0 in a Sunset Region Southwest Class 4-A Division game, on the Trojans' field.

"At least we didn't give up 20 (runs), like some teams have," said Chris Iverson, the Trojans' first-year coach. But the Trojans did have a chance to end the Gaels' shutout streak at three games, getting runners at second and third in the fourth inning.

Winning pitcher Matt Wagner got out of that jam and completed another shutout in the fifth, to complete the run-rule victory.

"We had only 10 players again today, but we hope to have everybody back Tuesday," said Iverson. The Trojans, 1-3 in the Southwest, played at Las Vegas Western in a division game Tuesday.

Last Friday, the Trojans lost 15-0 to Sierra Vista in a division game. Thursday, the Trojans go to Desert Oasis for a Southwest contest.

On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, Pahrump Valley is in the Blazer SportCo Spring Bash, played on Palo Verde and Bonanza high school fields.

On Monday, the Trojans are paired with San Diego (Calif.) Horizon, 8-1, at noon; at 3, they take on Lake Balboa (Calif.) Birmingham, 1-8. Both games are at Palo Verde.

Tuesday, the Trojans face the Northwest Division's Palo Verde at 3 p.m. to complete round-robin action. The tournament concludes with bracket games Wednesday.

In the Bonanza Pool are Legacy, Carson (Calif.) and Huntington Beach (Calif.), along with the Blazers.

Four players hit home runs to lead the Gaels (6-0 division, 8-3 in all games) to their win Monday against the Trojans (1-3, 3-6-1).

Jeff Malm was 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs, while R.J. Santigate (2-for-3, two RBIs), Joey Gallo and Johnny Field also homered.
